My beautiful wife, Natalia Roudakova, is from Kazan, Russia, and has just finished a magnificent dissertation on journalists and journalism in Russia after the end of socialism. Congratulations sweetie!

In more recent spare moments I try to break through my lifelong mental block to learning Spanish. I grew up in Tucson, Arizona, and unfortunately got very good at not understanding it. Trying to rectify the situation now.

I like to learn not only human languages but also computer languages. Currently, I'm learning Objective Caml, a functional programming language with unfortunately bizarre syntax but remarkably good semantics and implementation. A few of my old friends with Web presence

Gabriel Aldaz is a mechanical engineer and president of SparkWorks Engineering.

Stephan Faris, my friend since third grade, is an international journalist. Over the last few years, he's reported from Nigeria, Turkey, Iraq, and most recently Liberia.

Terry Brncic is a postdoc at Oxford and studies the plant ecology of forests in Central Africa. Sometimes she even comes back to the US to visit!

Simon Chang is a successful IT consultant, focusing on e-commerce and web development. He is also a phenomenal musician and a great friend.

Mathew Davies has an appropriately eclectic past and is now a computer science Ph.D. student at the Agents Lab at Columbia.

Another close friend of mine from college, Zeb Hogan, is finishing his Ph.D. in ecology at UC Davis. He has done critical work in Southeast Asia on conservation of the Mekong Giant Catfish. You can get a sense of it by googling for Zeb Hogan Mekong Giant Catfish.

Gene Bukhman is a cardiology fellow at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He's getting married this summer!

Chris Sinclair is finishing his math Ph.D. at UT Austin.

Matt Ricchetti is a graphic designer, translator, musician, and all-around great friend. He married me and Natalia!
